The upgrade of an item can be used to increase the stats of a particular item. Based on the type of upgrade, it may boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.

Item Level

When an item gets upgraded, its base stats are increased in value. This is the sum of all of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive, depending on the person you hire and what you decide to do. This is because of how many perks must be replaced to allow the item to be upgraded.

It can also be used to enforce gating requirements when queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It also serves to limit how much PvP gear players are able to wear as PvP is restricted at a lower level. Players can view their average level of items on their character sheet.

Utilizing the level of an item will allow players to compare the potency of gear when they decide to buy or sell. It's an excellent indicator of an item's quality and how much damage it will be capable of dealing with. Comparing items in a vendor's stock can be done using the item level.

The level of the item can be checked by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are a variety of theories on how the item level is calculated. One theory is that the item level is a number that comes from a formula which calculates the value of an item's stats are worth. It considers that different benefits are valued differently and that gems found in sockets increase the item's value. This can result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl which is usually close to Blizzard's real item level.

It's not the only thing that affects the value of an item. The level of the area where the item dropped can also alter its stats. For example it can add a level to the item's haste, or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more value than items dropped in lower-level instances.

Item Stats

The stats of an item can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game uses them in many ways to encourage players to not restrict themselves to a particular weapon, and to encourage players to explore other weapons. The stat mods of weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by a player's level.

The upgrades to items add by increasing certain stats of the item. The upgrade costs are determined by the rarity of the item. For example, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas an item with rare tiers will be upgraded several times at higher prices.

Another method of altering the stats of an item is to use affixes. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes are used to give items additional damage or other special capabilities (such as revitalizing dead or reducing cooling downs) or to distinguish them by adding a name.

At present, all affixes can be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button using the arrows that circle. It will cost a set amount of gold and other items. These can be used as upgrade gauges, as with other methods of rerolling.

Players can upgrade an item to specific stats or reroll the affixes. The possible stat ranges for an item are determined by the item level, but all items are guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within the range, unless it is an exclusive item or a God roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could change is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to reroll the attaches, or select which stats to enhance. Like base equipment, it must be done per item upgrader mod and the interface for item comparison would not display all the possible stats at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the likelihood of item discoveries, the properties spawned on loot drops, and the intensity of the properties. It does not, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with the chance to upgrade equipment earlier in the game. This is especially useful in early game runs since players tend to prioritize weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.

Luck can also increase the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith’s overall upgrade chances, which increase with each item level upgrade level. It is also possible to be enhanced by using anti-materials such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons come with an initial Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to give +40 Luck or to boost the existing Luck of the item up to 140.

Certain items, like the weapon that is infused with hollow can also be crafted to increase the damage of any ability that deals damage by 5%. These items are available in the shop or crafted by using the appropriate ingredients.

Not all upgrades are successful. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to boost their chances of success or even prevent them from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.

When you upgrade an item, the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased as much, and the likelihood that an upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..

The performance of an upgrade is also affected by the luck of the item. Each item has an overall success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases this chance by five percent.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects can be obstructed by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
