How to Replace an replacement audi car key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located near the transmission's edge, above the flywheel gear. It sends a message to the ECU via the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 through a grey wire. The ECU uses this information to control boost and fuel. It also sends signals to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also where the camshaft lies to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails the ECU will throw a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync, possibly indicating the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper timing chain. The code will not appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It's a bit tricky to test because there are different pins on the connector and each one has different functions. The best way to do it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is fully functional, it should read around 1000 ohms. Examine for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if there are problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll, i experienced massive power loss like the engine is running out of gas or injectors are not firing anymore. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was dry. I placed a tissue over each injector hole and when I turn the engine on without sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one stays shut. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I get zero Ohm. I think the issue is in another location.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it is running fine with the G28 plugged in. However, the intermittent misfire problem continues to occur at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when it is unplugged, shows an ice temperature of -49c. Also, i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit is showing 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I'm not sure what to do. I think I've all other possibilities out. However, i'm afraid that I might have missed something. Please let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find a spare in a wrecking shop or parts store. Test them out by putting your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's side). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that has to be aware of the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make decisions about timing of the fuel injector, for example. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If you encounter a problem with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will show the codes that could trigger an engine shutdown.

Some of the symptoms of a malfunctioning G28 sensor are an inaccurate gearbox rev counter, gears shifting quicker than normal and/or a misfire when in gear. It is probable that the sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you experience any of these symptoms. The good news is they are very affordable and readily available, especially when you're looking at a Bosch model, which is what ours are. Alternately, the GM version of this component is also a great option.

5. Tachometer

A damaged engine sensor could cause a variety of issues within your vehicle. It's a crucial component of the transmission of your audi tt replacement key since it sends information to the ECU about how fast or slow the engine is turning. This sensor can cause the transmission to fail and other components in the car key cover audi to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located near the edge of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It sends a signal via gray wire to ECU pin T55/49. The ECU then processes this signal to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost as well as transmitting it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can check for sensor failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Additionally, you can check continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. You should see the resistance to be around 1000 ohms between these two points. This is the same across the Audi 80-100-200-RS2 model, ranging beginning with the 1985 MC and up to the 1997 UrS AN and 1995 RS2 Du You may also find them in wrecking yards.
