Choosing a double pram and pushchair (check out here)
A double pram can make life easier for families, especially in busy shops or on busy streets. Find a model that has generous storage space for stowing nappies, snacks and other essentials.
Some parents who are first-time parents choose a future-proof pushchair that can be used as a single pram once baby is born, and later transformed into a twin-mode once he or she has arrived. Joolz offers a wide range of choices.
Tandem
The news that you're about to have a baby is one of the most exciting events in life. When the excitement wears off and the reality of the situation kicks in, you will be faced with many options for how to prepare your family for. One of the most important considerations is choosing the right pram or pushchair.
Tandem prams, also known as "in-line" double prams, are a classic design that has two bassinets or seats placed side by side. The front seat, which is typically cushioned, reclines flat and is suitable for babies. The second seat is more upright and is designed to accommodate toddlers as young as 3 years old. Certain models let you select whether your children stare at each other or outwards. Many tandems can be converted to one pushchair when your oldest child is no longer in need of the second seat.
In terms of cost, a tandem is much cheaper than a twin stroller side by side pushchair, and is a great option for parents who want to save money but not compromising on safety or function. However, a drawback of a tandem is that it could feel long and heavy to steer especially when going up or down kerbs. It is usually less stable than a twin pram, particularly if the older child is sitting in the front. A tandem can be difficult to fit on public transport, and it may be difficult to navigate narrow pavements.
The iCandy Peach, a popular model that focuses on image, is a fantastic alternative for a single parent who wants an elegant appearance. However the tandem mode can make it feel long and heavy to push. It has frames that can be expanded in width to accommodate the second seat. It can be used with a variety of combinations of car seats, buggy seats and carrycots (two at simultaneously or separately). The iCandy Wave tandem is another lightweight option that's user-friendly and compatible with a range of car seats or carrycots.
Side by side
There are many things to consider when choosing a double pram or pushchair. Whether you're buying for twins or siblings close in age, there are a number of configuration options to take into account. Tandem prams, also referred to as side-by-side prams, are a popular options because they can be configured so that the infant can be seated in the bassinet on top while the older child or toddler is seated in the second seat.
Some models come with reversible seats, which means you can alter the seating arrangement to your family's requirements throughout the baby and toddler years. This lets you keep your children always in your sights and also gives them a chance to interact with each other as they stroll.
Tandem prams can be jogging buggies, or all-terrain buggies. They are perfect for outdoor excursions, like to the park. They're also a good option for those who have to navigate narrow checkout aisles or isles in supermarkets as they're generally smaller than single-seaters.
The Redsbaby JIVE3 Pram, for instance can be used as a tandem pram right from birth in the dual mode, with the addition of the rumble seat (PS249). You can then change to a single pram mode when your little one grows out of the rumble seat or select the adaptors for car capsules (PS53) to transform it into a traveler from newborn to toddler.
Another alternative is the Side by Side Pram from Babybee. This side-by-side double pram is available in a range of colors and comes with an attractive modern style. It is designed to be used from the moment of birth, you can add the LUNA newborn Cocoon (PS262) and the LUNA Infant Seats (PS53 each).
The Egg 2 is a stylish, sleek pushchair that is able to be converted into a double side-by-side. It is available in a variety of infant seats and carrycots to accommodate twins or siblings of different ages. It is also super-easy to fold. It's also fairly light and therefore an ideal choice for families with smaller cars or a limited storage space.
Convertible
The best lightweight double stroller double prams and pushchairs are versatile, and some are even able to change into different seating configurations to meet the changing needs of your family. There is the possibility of fitting two toddlers in a seat or even a third one on the seat board and have space for a shopping basket and the option to add accessories like rain covers is also a plus. Most convertible double strollers are more spacious and heavier than single pushchairs as they must be able to accommodate two or more children. The Graco Modes Nest2Grow convertible is an example of a very inexpensive convertible that is very easy to use. However, our testers found it to be a bit heavy for the money.
Some convertible double strollers like the Baby Jogger City Select 2 include a carrycot suitable for newborns. This helps to reduce the size of the double stroller when not in use and makes it more compact. Our testers were impressed with the City Select's unique one-handed fold. However, it requires some practice. It's also very responsive and nimble, despite its size.
Another affordable option is an option that is affordable is the Cybex Mockingbird Single-to-Double Stroller. It can be transformed from a parent-facing infant car seat to a forward-facing toddler seat. The bassinet-style mode is a great choice for infants.
If you want more flexibility, consider a dual-mode convertible such as the iCandy Peach. It's a compact cheap double pushchair stroller that is able to accommodate two children in a tandem. It can also be used to create a tandem by incorporating a second seat kit. It is nimble and responsive, and our testers were impressed by its sleek design. It's not as light as the other pushchairs on our list however, it comes with a large shopping basket which is handy for parents carrying bags of toys and groceries.
lightweight double buggy
Convertible double strollers are an excellent option for parents who already have children and anticipate the arrival of a second. The iCandy Peach allows you to transform from a single to a double pushchair by the addition of either an infant seat or the brand's carrycot (which is suitable for overnight sleeping). Our testers noted how comfortable the seats are and loved the fact that they both recline to different positions, have built-in foot and leg supports and have UPF 50+ canopy with peekaboo windows. The rear seat can also be elevated to provide a a standing platform for the older child to get on and off, to allow them to access items in the basket of groceries.
Cher stated that the only downside of the iCandy Peach was its weight. However, she felt this was offset by the fact that it is easy to move and comes with plenty of storage space, including two cup holders for children and parents, seat-back pockets, and a large basket under the seat. Cher also appreciated that the seats can be reversed to face each other, which is ideal for siblings who like to chat and have conversations while out and out and about.
A lighter and equally impressive choice is the Delta Children LX side-by-side stroller, which weighs only 18 lbs. It is compact and features a self-standing fold that makes it easy to transport and store in your trunk or at home. Parents love the quality of materials and workmanship, and the affordable cost. The only negatives are that the seats don't recline as well as other models we've tested and the rear seat isn't as well-lit due to its position as it is higher than the front seat.
Another popular option is the Joolz Geo 3, which is slim and sleek. It is also easy to steer, with an attractive design and a lifetime guarantee. Although they are narrower side-by-side prams may be larger than tandems and inline doubles. This makes them difficult to maneuver on busy streets and in shops. They are also shorter and therefore easier to maneuver in tight spaces.
