Upgrades can boost the value of weapons, armors and rings. Upgrades can also boost bonuses like crit chance and PvE Damage.

Components

Upgrade components can be inserted into any equipment with a slot for them; the item must be at least upgraded to the blue level in order for the component to be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other mods can only be applied once. They cannot be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and enrichments are a special kind of upgrade component that is designed for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment, as well as some of the back items that are not ascending. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging ascended gear or completing an elite task in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

A prefix or suffix may be added to an upgrade, thereby changing the name of the item it is applied to (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia',' changes to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost the Mark Level or Rarity, which allows players to make stronger versions of the equipment that require fewer Upgrade Crystals than are required to achieve the same level of upgrade through normal methods.

A boost upgrade is a way to alter the attack or defense characteristics of a weapon or armor. They can be dropped by enemies when upgrading other gear, or by buying them from the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals per.

Each upgrade increases the probability that a better-quality version of the item will be available at the next reset. This gives the player some incentive to keep upgrading their gear even if they're uncertain of the extent to which it will improve after a future reset.

The process of upgrading an item could be costly, and it is possible that the item will eventually become obsolete, or even break, when the upgrade fails. Upgrade Crystals and assist powders are also destroyed when the upgrade fails. This is alleviated by the availability cash shop items to double or even eliminate chances of failure, and a few upgrades that give an additional benefit when they are inserted into an item.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to enhance the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets that are specifically designed for. Glyphs increase the power of nodes within a radius, and include any pre-existing affixes. Glyphs are upgraded in many ways. We recommend upgrading them as fast as possible to level 15.

You'll often see in the endgame that putting Glyphs is the most effective method to upgrade item your gear. They are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded directly to level 15, and they provide a large boost to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to get higher nodes more quickly.

Glyphs, the only upgrade component which can be removed without restriction and then replaced with no restrictions, are the most common. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and replaced with the aid of a Black Lion Salvage Kit.

Each Glyph has a particular range of values that it can improve a statistic by. The value is shown when you select the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with an Glyph that is of the same or higher rank to boost the value of the Glyph.

Each level of an item requires a different number of components to reach, and the upgrade costs increase as the item is upgraded.

Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or found on the upgrade tab in a crafting table. Each Upgrade Recipe completed yields a certain number of Technology points.
