1. Engine Speed Sensor

The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 using an uncolored wire. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends a signal to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and where the camshaft lies in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate an issue with the chain or a jump in the chain link of the upper chain of timing. However, the error code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit tricky because there are two connector pins, and they have different functions however the best method to test it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read around 1000 ohms when the sensor is in full operation. Check for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at a high speed I noticed a massive decrease in power. It was like the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was unclean. When I start the engine with no sparks, I put a piece of tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline pop out, but the 4th one stays closed. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 I got zero ohm. I assume that the problem is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset PID but without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it works fine when the G28 connected. However the intermittent misfire issue continues to occur at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even if it is not plugged in, shows a temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not sure what to do. I think I've eliminated everything else. But i'm worried that I may have missed something. Let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. Testing them is easy to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and measure the resistance between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black end of the connector).
