13 Things About Item Upgrader You May Not Have Known
World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items are a method to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade, it can increase the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level and increase other stats.
Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a set amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's basic stats increases when it is upgraded. This value is the total of all of its leveled up advantages (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be expensive dependent on who you employ and what you do. This is due to how many perks must be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.
It can also be used to enforce gating requirements when queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It can also be used as a gating requirement while queueing for dungeons, scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is restricted to a lower level). The average item level can be found in the character sheet.
When deciding whether to buy or sell equipment players can evaluate the level of an item. It's an excellent indicator of an item's quality and the amount of damage it's capable of causing. Comparing items in the inventory of a seller is possible using the item level.
The item level can be seen by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the item's full description, including ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.
There are several theories about how the calculation of the item's level is done. One theory says that the level of an item is calculated using an equation that determines the value of an item's stats actually are. It takes into consideration the fact that various perks have different value, and also that sockets have gems that increase the item's overall value. This process can result in a calculated value for the item's level, which is usually quite close to the actual Blizzard item level.
However, this isn't the only factor that can affect an item's ilvl as the level of the area the item dropped in can alter the value of its stats, for instance by adding an additional level to its haste or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have a higher ilvl.
Item Stats
Item stats can make or break an item for players. The game makes use of them in many ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to a single weapon and to encourage players to experiment with other weapons. The stat mods on weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by a player's level.
The upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The rarity of an item determines its cost of upgrading. A white or grey item for instance, will only be upgraded once however, items with rare tiers may be upgraded multiple times at more expensive costs.
Another method to alter the stats of an item is by affixing it. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Affixes can be used to give the item extra damage, or give a specific ability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down the duration of cooldowns) or make the item unique by giving an exclusive name to the item.
Presently, all affixes are able to be rerolled by selecting them from the upgrade item window and pressing the green button using the arrows that circle. This will cost a specific amount in gold and items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, similar to other methods of rerolling.
Players can choose to upgrade an item to specific stats, or reroll attaches. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However, all items will include at least one stat within that range unless they are a unique item or a God Roll from a raid boss.
Another thing that could be changed is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to reroll the affixes, or choose which stats to enhance. As with the base equipment, it will have to be done per item, and the item comparison interface would not display all the possible stats simultaneously.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the odds of finding items and the properties that are spawned from loot drops and the intensity of those properties. It does not, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade item items. It provides players with an opportunity to get better equipment earlier in the game. This is especially advantageous in early game runs because players tend to put the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.
Luck can also boost the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chances that increase with each level of the item. It is also possible to be increased with the use of anti-materials like a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Armor, shields and weapons have the default Luck value of 40. These items can then be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant an additional +40 Luck or to increase the luck of an item, up to 140.
Moreover, certain items, such as the Hollow infused weapon can be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items are available in the shop or created using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades work. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent them from losing an item if the Upgrade Item fails.
The success rate of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading the item and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased by so much, and the chance that an upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%.
The performance of an upgrade is also affected by the Luck of that item. All items have an average success rate of 25% and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.
It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the inventory items therefore enchantment glints and other effects may be masked by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
