Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric statistics on armor, weapons and rings. Upgrades also boost bonuses like Crit chance and damage from PvE.

Components

Upgrade components can only be applied to equipment that has a slot. The item must be upgraded to blue level before a component can be applied. Infusions and Enrichments are a type of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascending equipment, as other items that are not ascended. A prefix or suffix may be added to an upgrade, changing the name of the item it's used on (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' is changed to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades boost an item's Mark Level, or Rarity, which allows players to make stronger versions of the equipment that require less Upgrade Crystals than is required to reach the same level of upgrade using normal methods.

A boost upgrade can alter the defense or attack characteristics of a weapon or armor.
