In this role, Bowles Rice develops litigation strategies and oversees local and region counsel to ensure a uniform and cost-effective defense in accordance with the client's goals. In addition it plays a crucial role in the management of asbestos dockets as well as negotiations with plaintiffs' counsel and lead discovery for its clients.

The firm's lawyers have extensive trial and appellate experience defending clients against claims by injured claimants, including those claiming mesothelioma or other asbestos-related diseases. Asbestos defense lawyers are familiar with the complex science that is associated with these cases, as well as the unique legal issues that arise when representing companies in federal and state courts across the United States.

Catherine has represented numerous manufacturers as the lead trial counsel in asbestos and personal injury lawsuits involving product liability as well as in consolidated cases that involve multiple plaintiffs. She has extensive experience in arguing asbestos-related cases in federal and state courts, as well as before various supreme and appellate courts.

During her tenure at Brobeck, Vogel handled asbestos cases for respondents, including those at the Asbestos Claim Facility in Northern California. The case files included SEAR forms (Short Encapsulated Evaluative Reports) that contained confidential information on the claimants, such as medical reports, a history of work, and a list of asbestos products that the plaintiff worked with or around. Vogel was required to use access to the files and was able to go through the SEAR forms of any case with her current employer.
